Inbox by Gmail Doesn’t Work with Google Apps

Posted on October 24, 2014 Written by Bill Hartzer

The new Inbox by Gmail, launched just recently, does not work with email accounts set up through Google Apps. My company, for example, uses our Gmail accounts for our email. And, I use Gmail even on my phone for email. So, I was kind of excited to try the new Inbox by Gmail. But, when I got the invite from Google, I downloaded the app, and got the following after installing it:

Inbox by Gmail
Your organization isn’t set up for Inbox yet.

Don’t worry, it’s not your fault or your organization’s fault. Inbox by Gmail won’t work with Google Apps.

It’s not that we haven’t set up our company’s email to work with Inbox by Gmail yet. It’s that this new service, Inbox by Gmail, hasn’t been set up to work with Google Apps yet. What a disappointment. I mean, if you send an email to Inbox@Google.com, like you’re supposed to, you actually get a message back that you’re going to receive an invite when it’s ready.

But the next day (at least I got the invite the next day), I even downloaded the app. Installed it. And went to add the company email account and whoops! It doesn’t work.

So, can’t Google realize that there are email addresses signed up to use Google Apps through Gmail (your company domain name) and why not decide to NOT send the invite? Or, better yet, send a message that your domain isn’t set up to use it yet? So, you’ll have to wait.

But no, Google lets the whole process go through, lets us install an app that DOES NOT WORK!

Luckily for me, I have another gmail account that I use, an “name @gmail.com” type of email address, so I can still use the app.

But for thousands of people who use their domain name on Google Apps, and PAY GOOGLE FOR IT, they should at least be able to use Inbox by Google. I am I wrong for thinking that?

Is your company email or domain name set up with Google apps and are you able to use Inbox by Gmail?
