Now Microsoft Bing Has a Date Problem, Too – Just Like Google

Posted on April 10, 2025 Written by Bill Hartzer

microsoft bing date problem

I’ve written extensively over the years about Google’s long-standing issue with displaying incorrect dates in their search engine results. Despite multiple complaints from SEOs, journalists, and even conspiracy theorists, Google has continued to show wrong publication dates on content—dates that don’t reflect when the article was actually posted. In fact, Google reps told me directly on more than one occasion that the issue had been addressed. But sure enough, it kept popping up again. [Read more…]

Google Indexing, Ranking Bing Search Results and Redirects

Posted on October 18, 2019 Written by Bill Hartzer

Taylor Olsen Bing results in Google

Here we go again. I’ve written about this before and Google again is indexing search engine results pages in Bing.com. When I pointed it out, Google eventually removed it. And, better yet, Google is also indexing and ranking those pages and pages that redirect to other URLs. What’s odd, is that Google’s actually indexing pages that appear to be on the Bing.com domain but they’re redirecting to another site. [Read more…]

How Not to Redirect an Old Blog Post: Courtesy Microsoft

Posted on May 16, 2017 Written by Bill Hartzer

Well, here’s one that has got me scratching my head. Actually, I’m trying to decide if I should be scratching my head or doing a face-palm thing. An old post from Microsoft, which was a pretty important announcement, is being redirected to another URL. But wait, it actually doesn’t redirect. And then when you click the link that they tell you to, because it’s been moved to another location, you get another notice that you’ll be redirected to the new location. Oh wait, it doesn’t redirect you. Confused yet? You should be. [Read more…]

How to Disavow Links in Bing Using Automation

Posted on December 8, 2016 Written by Bill Hartzer

If you are an SEO (or an SEO Consultant like me), then you should be familiar with Google’s Disavow Tool. Essentially you can upload a text file list of URLs or domain names that are linking to your website, telling them to disavow or ignore those links or all links from a certain domain name. But most of the time, we’ll disavow those links in Google but totally forget about uploading the same disavow file to Bing, as well. You’ve done all the work finding the links to disavow, identifying bad and toxic links, so why not upload the list to Bing as well? [Read more…]

Will Bing Webmaster Tools Change Their Name?

Posted on May 26, 2015 Written by Bill Hartzer

twitter-no-name-change-bing

Of course this is just speculation on my part, but it does not look like Bing Webmaster Tools has any plans to change the name of their product anytime soon. I was having a conversation on Twitter today where a friend from Microsoft mentioned that a name change wasn’t on the radar.

But, of course we know how that goes. Plans can certainly change at any time.

As you might recall, Google recently changed the name of Google Webmaster Tools to the Google Search Console, a move that has surprised many veteran Google Webmaster Tools users, such as myself. [Read more…]
