Starting today, I noticed that on my personal Facebook account, when logged in, I am no longer able to make a Facebook post. Instead, there is an options for Article, Live Video, or Photo/video. Clicking on the Article option, it takes me to a new page, where I can add a full-length article. This includes the suggestion to upload a large photo, and then content for the article.
I’m assuming that this new Facebook Articles option is for Creators and influencers, as my understanding is that most personal accounts do not have this Articles option.
The Facebook Article option is very similar to what you see when you post an Article on LinkedIn. They want you to post a large header image, as well as the full article. But on LinkedIn, you’re given the option to make a post OR to post an Article. Currently, on my personal Facebook account, I am not allowed to make a post: I’m only allowed to post an Article, it seems.
Looking at this in more detail, the form (see the first screen shot in this article) still allows me to make a small or short “post”. But it is confusing, as there is now an Article option there. I haven’t posted an article yet, but what I am going to do is once this article here is posted I will copy it and post it as a Facebook article. A few things I’d like to see is whether or not there is a unique URL for the article, and whether or not the Facebook article is crawled and indexed in Google. I’ll also be looking to see how the links in Facebook articles appear, if they include the “nofollow” link attribute.
Finally I have some place to post those ‘guest posts’ requests that I keep getting via Facebook messenger! (Well, not really, but maybe I should be now offering guest posts on my Facebook articles?)
