Fake Conference Attendee Contact Lists Being Sold

Posted on September 13, 2019 Written by Bill Hartzer

Fake conference attendee list

Fake email conference attendee contact lists are being sold and the latest targeted conference appears to be Pubcon Las Vegas. Emails that are going out to what a NextGenExpos thinks is a list of exhibitors seeks to sell that they’re calling a contact list of an updated attendees list. I am not an exhibitor at Pubcon Las Vegas 2019–although for some reason I received an email from this company as if I’m currently exhibiting at the conference.

Email Selling a Fake Contact List

Even though I’m not an exhibitor, here’s an email from someone named Susan Dauber from Next Gen Expos

October 7-10, 2019| Las Vegas

As you can see, this “Susan Dauber” appears to represent themselves as being an event specialist from Pubcon Las Vegas. I have verified with the Pubcon team that they didn’t send out this email–and they’ve mentioned on their Facebook Group that they’re not pitching or selling the list of attendees. In fact, anything that this company would have is nowhere near the actual list.

I did some digging around, and, as you can see, the email address is from someone at “nextgenexpos.com”, which is NOT EVEN INDEXED in Google currently:

nextgenexpos.com

And the website is not up and running–it’s showing an under construction page.

Beware of any company or emails that you’re sent from any organization claiming that they have the email list or contact list of all the attendees of a conference, whether or not it’s Pubcon Las Vegas or not. I’ve received emails from similar organizations selling attendee lists for conferences such as Digital Summit. Just like Digital Summit, these are fake email contact attendee lists. They generally aren’t reliable, and I wouldn’t spend any money purchasing these lists. With the conference season in full swing now, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the last email like this that I receive this year.

B2B Marketing Expo California

This same “Susan Dauber” is at it again, sending emails to people who they think are exhibiting at the B2B Marketing Expo California conference. Again, a similar email, but with a different domain name, excelbixtechs.com:

Dear Exhibitors,

We wish you a great success in the forthcoming exhibition.
