Google AdSense is getting rid of their iOS and Android apps in favor more a more favorable mobile experience. According to an email sent out to Google AdSense publishers such as myself, that means that they will no longer support the Google AdSense app. There will no longer be a Google AdSense app that you can use on your phone.
Each day, in the morning while I am having my morning coffee, I usually check a few thing on my iPhone: like checking email, Google Analytics (to make sure my sites are up and running), and Google AdSense to see how much my sites made yesterday. Each of these have apps, and honestly I feel a bit more secure since I’m going through an app instead of going to a website. But starting soon, Google is investing more in the mobile web experience instead.
Here’s the email that they sent to publishers:
“To deliver a richer experience on mobile, we’re investing heavily in creating a responsive web interface.
Our goal is to improve the AdSense mobile experience by giving you more features and functionality much faster than we can today.
As we move towards this goal, we’ll stop supporting the AdSense mobile application over the next few months.
In the meantime, stay tuned for updates on the AdSense mobile web experience!”
Certainly you’ll be still able to check your AdSense stats and see how much money you have made. And it won’t have any effect on how much money you make as a Google AdSense publisher. But what’s interesting is the fact that Google appears to moving away from apps now and investing more time into the mobile web instead. As a publisher, though, I only really want to use an app to see how much money I’ve made from AdSense yesterday, this week, or whatever–and which sites are performing for me. If I want a bunch of more details about the sites and performance, I will go to my laptop and look it up, directly through the website. Seems to me that they could continue to have a basic app on iOS and Android that only gives you certain data like revenue data?
Timeline for AdSense App Removal
They don’t publicly say when they’re going to be removing the Google AdSense apps on iOS and Android, but they do say it’s later this year. And that’s going to have to be in November (two weeks left in November), so I bet it’s going to be next month (December 2019):
“Later this year we will announce improvements to the AdSense mobile web interface. The AdSense Android and iOS apps will be deprecated in the coming months, and will be discontinued and removed from the app stores by the end of 2019.”
