Revolutionizing How We Find What to Watch: Quickplay and Google Cloud Unveil Game-Changing AI Tool for Streaming

Posted on April 10, 2024 Written by Bill Hartzer

Quickplay is making strides to ensure that audiences can effortlessly find content that resonates with them. Partnering with Google Cloud, Quickplay introduced its latest innovation, the Curator Assistant, a tool designed to transform content discovery for Over-The-Top (OTT) service providers. This unveiling took place at two major industry events: Google Cloud Next ’24 and the NAB Show, highlighting the continuous collaboration between Quickplay and Google Cloud to drive forward the capabilities of generative AI in content programming.

Quickplay’s Curator Assistant builds on the success of its AI-powered Media Companion, introduced at IBC 2023, which facilitated conversational interaction between viewers and content libraries. The Curator Assistant aims to further streamline the programming process, allowing programming teams to create storefront rails filled with engaging titles quickly and efficiently. This not only enhances the viewer experience by making content discovery more intuitive but also frees up valuable time for programmers.

Paul Pastor, CBO and Co-Founder of Quickplay, emphasized the pivotal role of OTT providers’ programming teams in content search and discovery. With the Curator Assistant, these teams can now utilize conversational search to leverage the vast expanses of the internet, going beyond their own or licensed metadata, to craft personalized viewing experiences. This marks a significant shift towards more dynamic and responsive content programming.

The Curator Assistant employs generative AI to enable programmers to discover and merchandise content in novel ways. Integrated with the Quickplay CMS (Content Management System), the tool facilitates the creation of content rails aligned with viewers’ personal interests, topical themes, or seasonal content. Powered by Google Vertex AI and utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs), the Curator Assistant taps into a broader database than traditional metadata tagging, ensuring that content recommendations are both surprising and relevant.

This innovative tool is part of Quickplay’s ongoing commitment to optimizing AI-driven search, discovery, and personalization features. By providing a natural language interface for discovery, augmenting content metadata, identifying natural content breakpoints, auto-generating content rails, and personalizing content carousels, Curator Assistant empowers programming teams to enhance storefront visibility and viewer engagement significantly.

Juan Martin, Quickplay’s CTO and Co-Founder, highlighted the importance of empowering curators to create dynamic storefronts that suggest relevant and personalized content. This approach not only enhances viewer engagement but also opens up new monetization opportunities for clients. Anil Saboo, Director of Industry ISV Partnerships at Google Cloud, echoed this sentiment, underscoring the partnership’s role in driving the future of OTT content delivery through the use of cutting-edge technology and generative AI.

Quickplay’s demonstrations at Google Cloud Next 2024 and the NAB Show 2024 will showcase how the integration of Generative AI with Quickplay’s CMS is setting new standards for search experiences in the OTT space. With its headquarters in Toronto and offices around the globe, Quickplay continues to lead the charge in cloud transformations of OTT and in-home experiences, leveraging its award-winning platform and partnerships to deliver premium video content and personalized entertainment to millions of viewers worldwide.
