Facebook Acquired AccountKit.com Domain, Registers Other Typos

Posted on March 22, 2016 Written by Bill Hartzer

Facebook has acquired the domain name AccountKit.com and they have also just recently registered a lot of typo domain names related to AccountKit.com. Usually when a company registers a lot of typos for a domain name, they plan on using that domain name publicly–and expect that people might mistype the domain name.

Jamie Zoch first discovered all of these typo domain name registrations and posted about it on Twitter on March 19th:

Facebook Inc. acquires domain name AccountKit(.)com for undisclosed amount, also registers a ton of typo related domains. #facebook #domains

Currently, I can’t find anything related to Account Kit, or even AccountKit.com in Google that would be related to their acquisition and why they’re so interested in all of these typo domains:

1ccountkit.com
2ccountkit.com
acc0untkit.com
acc9untkit.com
acciuntkit.com
accluntkit.com
acco7ntkit.com

afcountkit.com
avcountkit.com
axcountkit.com
cacountkit.com
sccountkit.com
wccountkit.com
yccountkit.com
zccountkit.com

There are 64 different versions of “AccountKit.com”, and they obviously don’t want to “give away” any of the typo traffic to anyone else who may purchase those domains. Frankly, I personally think this is a little “overkill”, but perhaps this shows that they’re really planning on doing something huge with AccountKit.com?
