Apparently There Will Be No More Mobile Innovating At Microsoft

Posted on September 23, 2013 Written by Bill Hartzer

Apparently there will be no more mobile innovation at Microsoft. Well, at least that’s the impression you get if you look at the domain names that Microsoft did not renew. Microsoft, obviously on purpose, has chosen not to renew this group of domain names, as they will soon be available for anyone to register:

innovateonmobile.com
innovateonmobile.net
innovateonmobile.org
innovateonwindowsmobile.com
innovateonwindowsmobile.net
innovateonwindowsmobile.org

When you look up each of the domain names, they have not been renewed (they are set to expire on September 25, 2013), according to the whois record:

Whois Server Version 2.0

Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.

Domain Name: INNOVATEONMOBILE.COM
Registrar: CSC CORPORATE DOMAINS, INC.
Whois Server: whois.corporatedomains.com
Referral URL: http://www.cscglobal.com
Name Server: NS1.MSFT.NET
Name Server: NS2.MSFT.NET
Name Server: NS3.MSFT.NET
Name Server: NS4.MSFT.NET
Name Server: NS5.MSFT.NET
Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 22-sep-2013
Creation Date: 25-sep-2007
Expiration Date: 25-sep-2013

>>> Last update of whois database: Mon, 23 Sep 2013 15:53:04 UTC <<< From what I can tell, it appears that Microsoft was thinking of some campaign or site, trying to get people to "innovate on mobile", thus these domain names were used for that. Or maybe Microsoft had a grand plan to use those domains or the "innovate on mobile" for some sort of campaign. Whatever the case, it looks like there will be no more "innovating on mobile". AT least for Microsoft.
