Search Engine Optimization History: June 12, 2005 Was a Historic Day

Posted on May 25, 2011 Written by Bill Hartzer

When it comes to the Search Engine Optimization industry’s history, I bet that you did not know that June 12, 2005 was a historic day. According to a tool by Google called Google Correlate, there were far more searches for “search engine optimization” than ever before. In fact, so much so, that the data stands out like a sore thumb:

If you use the new Google Correlate tool, and you search for search engine optimization, you can see clearly that June 12, 2005 was clearly amazing day when it comes to the history of search engine optimization as an industry.

So, what was so historic about June 12, 2005? Well, the only bit of news that I can find about June 12, 2005 was the Perfect 10 issue. But sometimes news is searched for a day late–news will happen the day earlier, and then people will end up searching for it later (up to a day later) as they hear the news. So, if the Perfect 10 issue really was an issue, I would suspect that perhaps that so many people searching for “search engine optimization” would search for it the day later, which would be June 13, 2005.

Let’s take this theory one step further: what if some amazing news related to search engine optimization actually happened on June 11, 2005, and all those people searched for search engine optimization the next day? Well, what happened on June 11, 2005?

Michael Arrington founded TechCrunch. Enough said.

I would like to officially declare that June 12 is “Search Engine Optimization Day”. Well, maybe that is going too far, but clearly it was an historic day in the history of search engine optimization, right?
