Peer Group Consulting, a full-service advertising, marketing, and public relations agency based in Central Texas (San Antonio area), is claiming that they’re the “first advertising agency in the United States to provide services that cater specifically to deaf and blind audiences.”
American Sign Language interpretation provider Deaf Link, Inc. of San Antonio, Texas has recently announced a partnership with Peer Group Consulting. Deaf Link recently began providing exclusive ASL interpretation services to Peer Group Consulting for their recently launched ADA compliant web design services. The websites being offered are ADA compliant because they offer popus with a video that interprets the text of the website and essentially “signs” the site to people. It also is accompanied by voiceovers and screen reader compatibility for the blind and the visually impaired.
Peer Group Consulting focuses on providing “ADA compliant sites for city websites currently in need of online information catering to the deaf and blind communities. They are currently finalizing contracts with several cities across the nation.”
The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) was established in 1990 to prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities, as well as “provide equal access” and “ensure effective communication” of public information. All estimated numbers and percentages are taken from the most recent National Health Interview Survey for the National Center of Health Statistics. (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/)
