Looki Launches the L1: An AI Wearable That Sees, Hears, and Remembers

OpenAI and Jony Ive have been rumored to be working on a screenless, context-aware device. But Looki didn’t wait. The company announced that its new multimodal wearable, the Looki L1, is already on the market. Available now for $199, with global shipping starting in September 2025, the L1 captures vision and sound, interprets context, and stores life’s moments in a way that feels both personal and useful.

A New Category of AI Companion

The Looki L1 is not a smartphone replacement, an action camera, or a simple GPT-powered pendant. It’s a device that sits in its own category: a companion meant to help users process and reflect on their daily lives. When switched on, the L1 records video and audio, then uses Looki’s AI to understand the context. It segments experiences into “Moments,” turning raw events into a narrative that users can revisit and share.

Design Built for Everyday Use

At just 30 grams—lighter than a slice of toast—the L1 is made for comfort. It lasts up to 12 hours on a single charge, making it wearable for an entire day without interruption. Accessories such as a wireless charging stand, mounting cage, go-clip, and even decorative stickers make it easy to adapt the device to different situations. Looki has been deliberate in making the L1 discreet, functional, and adaptable to personal style.

Features That Go Beyond Recording

Life Feeds

The Life Feeds feature acts as a private, AI-curated journal. Unlike social media, this feed isn’t about broadcasting to the world. Instead, it surfaces meaningful events, daily patterns, and memories that may otherwise be forgotten. It works like a digital biographer, creating a story of the wearer’s day.

Autocut Vlog

The L1 also produces a “one day in one minute” highlight reel. With no editing required, users get a shareable video that condenses everyday life into a quick, visual summary.

Privacy as a Foundation

Looki has emphasized that the L1 is not an always-on recording device. It only captures video and audio when the wearer activates it. A “Trust Light” makes it clear when the device is in use, giving transparency to both the user and the people around them. Data stays encrypted on the device, with optional cloud storage protected by private-key encryption on AWS servers. Memories belong to the user’s account, not to the hardware, ensuring full ownership over personal data.

A Glimpse of the Future

The L1 represents an early step into what personal AI can become. By combining multimodal sensing, contextual awareness, and strict privacy safeguards, Looki has created a wearable that doesn’t just capture life—it interprets it. For those who have ever wished for a personal historian or an assistant that understands what matters, the L1 may be the closest thing yet.

In practical terms, it gives everyday moments staying power. A walk with friends, a meeting, or even a passing thought can be preserved and re-examined. With the L1, life itself becomes the input, and reflection becomes the output. Looki’s message is simple: it’s time to own your story.
