Anguilla’s $28 Million Jackpot: The Unbelievable Rise of .AI Domains

Posted on January 17, 2024 Written by Bill Hartzer

The number of .ai domains has reached 353,928, up from under 100,000 in 2020, reports DomainWheel.com

In a surprising turn of events, DomainWheel unveils the extraordinary success of Anguilla, a Caribbean paradise, riding the wave of .ai domain registrations. The latest report indicates a staggering 146% surge in .ai domains from July 2022 to December 2023, totaling an impressive 353,928 registrations, up from a modest 100,000 in 2020.

Vincent Cate, the manager overseeing the .ai domain for Anguilla, excitedly reveals, “We’re witnessing over 20,000 names added each month, with a whopping 700 names on a regular day.” This meteoric rise has unexpectedly turned into a financial windfall for Anguilla citizens, with each new domain bringing in a substantial $140.

In 2023 alone, this translated into a mind-boggling $28.4 million, averaging at $1,784 for each of Anguilla’s 15,919 citizens, three times the initially projected figure. December alone saw a revenue spike of $3 million, setting the stage for an economic boom in 2024, with a predicted GDP growth of 6.9%.

The .ai domain extension, initially assigned to the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla long before artificial intelligence took center stage globally, has become a key player in the island’s economic landscape. Notably, the government’s decision to waive residential property taxes further fuels this economic surge.

The inception of this remarkable uptrend traces back to November 30th, 2022, coinciding with the release of ChatGPT. Now, startups and tech companies are flocking to secure .ai-related domain names for their innovative projects. One standout example is the record-breaking sale of the you.ai domain for a jaw-dropping $700,000 in October 2023.

DomainWheel, the AI-powered name generator and tech blog from Vertigo Studio, emerges as a beacon for entrepreneurs and business owners navigating the digital landscape. Offering insightful digital strategies, DomainWheel.com has become the go-to resource for those looking to launch and grow their brands in this digital era.
