Majestic Adds Outbound Link Counts to Link Data

Posted on September 14, 2017 Written by Bill Hartzer

One of the real reasons why I not only use Majestic every day and rely on it’s link data to do my job is the fact that they’re always improving their product. Improving their product, they’ve just announced three new features, giving us SEO consultants even more data to work with.

Majestic now has three new features, now showing us even more link data:

  1. Outbound Link Counts
  2. Linking Page Titles Integration
  3. Language Detection

One of the important SEO search engine ranking factors is links–how many links you have pointing to your website and the quality of those links. With Majestic, we can see the topic of the website linking to you, which is very helpful. You can see Trust Flow and Citation Flow counts. And topical Trust Flow, as well. But now it gets really interesting:

The number of outbound links on the page that’s linking to you is now shown. Not only that, we now get:

  • The number of other external links that page links to
  • The number of internal pages that page links to
  • The number of eternal domains that page links to

You’ll want that information to help you determine whether or not a link that’s linking to you is a good link to have. If you’re listing and linked on a page that has 50 other outgoing links to other websites, you may be lost in the mix. But if a page that links to you has less than 10 outbound links, not 50, that could possibly be a better link to have.

It’s worth noting that there are other link data sources (other websites that provide link data for link building purposes), but Majestic these are a first for the SEO and link building industries:

  • The number of internal pages that page links to
  • The number of eternal domains that page links to

When you analyze a website’s links for link building purposes and search engine ranking purposes, it’s important to understand the true number of links going out of a page. You need to see the number of outgoing links: both internal and external. Internal links on a website can really have a dramatic effect that you may not be aware of if you don’t have this link data.

Let’s look at an example of the new data that you’ll get in Majestic when looking at a link building project, a link analysis using their Site Explorer tool:

majestic outbound link data

This is the link data for one particular URL that is linking to a website. As you can see, you can get the URL Flow Metrics like Trust Flow and Citation Flow. You also get Domain Flow Metrics, like Trust Flow and Citation Flow to the overall domain (all pages on the domain). Then, there’s a new column, called Outbound, which includes internal links, external links, total outlines, and external domains.

Here’s an example of how it looks, using the example of the links to a popular cat video on YouTube:

Majestic link data example

In this screen capture, keep in mind that some of the data is missing because the new linking data (outbound data) is still being populated across the entire Majestic database of links, which is currently about 378,641,999,215 links in their Fresh Index (URL crawled in the past 90 days), from 11 June 2017 to 13 June 2017. Because this is new data that’s being added to the Majestic database, I don’t expect this outbound link data to be provided on the Historic Index.

Apart from showing the Outbound Link data and link counts, Majestic is now showing the Title of the page that’s linking. So, as you analyze link data, you’ll be able to further see if that page linking to you is appropriate, whether it’s on-topic, and whether or not it’s a low quality page that’s linking to you.

For full disclosure, I use Majestic so religiously that I’m not only a fan, but I’m a Majestic Brand Ambassador.
