Anime Goes Web3: The New .anime TLD Is Coming Soon

Posted on February 26, 2025 Written by Bill Hartzer

D3 partners with Animecoin Foundation

Anime lovers may soon have a unique space on the internet. The Animecoin Foundation and D3 Global have announced a partnership to apply for the .anime Top-Level Domain (TLD) through ICANN, the global organization overseeing domain names.

If approved, anime fans and Web3 users will be able to claim their own .anime domains for websites, email addresses, and even crypto wallets. This move could bridge the gap between traditional internet users and the growing Web3 community, giving anime enthusiasts a custom online identity that works across both worlds.

What This Means for Anime Fans

For years, domain names have been limited to familiar options like .com, .net, and .org. But with the push for .anime, fans will be able to claim unique digital addresses that align with their passion.

Here’s what a .anime domain could be used for:

  • Website address – A personal or business site dedicated to anime content.
  • Email address – A custom email that stands out from generic providers.
  • Crypto wallet – A multi-chain wallet address for digital transactions.
  • Web3 username – A verified online identity across decentralized platforms.

This collaboration isn’t just about branding. It’s about giving anime fans and creators a way to connect online with a shared digital identity.

Who’s Behind the .anime Initiative?

This effort is backed by some big names in Web3 and anime culture.

  • Animecoin Foundation – A non-commercial group focused on building the Animecoin ecosystem and supporting the anime fan community.
  • D3 Global – A leader in domain infrastructure and blockchain-based identity solutions.
  • Azuki – A Web3 anime company known for blending anime, blockchain, and digital ownership.

Together, they aim to create a trusted domain space for anime lovers worldwide.

The Bigger Picture

D3 Global’s DomainFi network plays a key role in this project. By integrating Web3-native identities with existing internet infrastructure, D3 is building a system where domains become digital assets.

Domain owners could benefit from:

  • Fractional ownership – A way to share ownership of high-value domains.
  • Domain-based lending – Using a domain name as collateral for loans.
  • Brand protection – Securing digital identities across Web2 and Web3.

With billions of internet users, D3 sees this as a chance to modernize how domains work.

What Happens Next?

D3 and Animecoin Foundation will submit their .anime application during ICANN’s next approval window. This is only the second time in ICANN’s history that new TLD applications are being accepted, making it a rare chance for Web3 projects to claim official domain spaces.

If approved, anime fans could soon see .anime domains live on the web, marking a major step toward a more immersive digital experience for anime communities.
