comScore, a company that “measures the digital world” has released their monthly qSearch analysis of the internet activity across the major search engines. comScore reports that in May 2007, Google’s web sites had 50.7 percent of the USA search market; Google gained one full share point over the previous month, April 2007. comScore Media Metrix has released their list of the top 50 web rankings for May, 2007. This is an analysis of the top USA consumer-related websites. Since we’re getting into the summer season, there was an increase in traffic to movie-related websites. Apparently political websites are fueling interest because of the presidential debates that took place. comScore also noted that e-commerce websites had a jump in traffic because people were shopping for Mother’s Day gifts online. comScore has recently conducted a study on the relationship between paid search marketing (pay per click advertising) and retail e-commerce. The study, based on the March, 2007 comScore qSearch Marketer report, revealed that e-commerce web sites are the most frequent users of Pay Per Click (PPC) search engine marketing; each of the top ten search engine marketers were either retail or comparison shopping web sites.
