I’m getting increasingly sick and tired of how Facebook’s timeline feed is utterly failing, time and time again. Yes, yet another Facebook Timeline Fail. We really don’t know what we are missing in our Facebook timeline, and this has to take the cake. 23 hours after severe weather and high winds were reported by our local emergency agency, Facebook decided to post their post in my timeline.
Take a look at this Facebook Timeline Fail:
Kaufman County Emergency Management
23 hrs ·There are high winds in excess of 70 miles per hour, please continue to monitor the weather and be prepared to take cover.
Notice that Facebook’s internal “algorithm” decided that it was appropriate to notify me of severe whether in my area 23 HOURS AFTER THIS EVENT OCCURRED!
If this is not the definition of a “Facebook Fail”, then I’ve never seen one.
Seriously, Facebook, how is it appropriate to relay a post about severe whether 23 hours after the fact? Well, honestly I’m not surprised, I’ve posted about how horrible the Facebook timeline is for reporting breaking news in the past.
Facebook needs to identify “breaking news” events, severe weather threats, and other important Facebook posts and show them immediately in our timeline. If it’s 2 hours or more after the post, then don’t show it.
Update:
About half an hour after I posted this, I get another Facebook post in my timeline, from the same organization I’ve liked on Facebook:
Now the storm is entering our county, and now this is more than 24 hours after it’s been originally posted.
Update
And yet another post comes through:
Kaufman County Emergency Management
Yesterday at 5:39pm ·Winds should be dropping off. Severe Thunderstorm Warning still in effect.
