Facebook Prepaid (Something) Coming Soon?

Based on recent domain name registrations by Facebook, it looks to me like the social media network is up to something related to prepaid. Facebook has acquired several domain names related to prepaid. And typically, major brands such as Facebook will acquire the domain names that describe new service offerings. Microsoft Buys 26 Contosoyams Domain Names

Microsoft is up to something. I’m not sure what, but I am really curious as to why Microsoft recently registered 26 domain names at once: all related to the word contosoyams. From my research so far, I have not been able to find any references anywhere to contosoyams, and can only determine that this is a fictitious word made up by someone at Microsoft. [Read more…]

Google Announces Calico, Registers GoogleCalico.com

Larry Page and Google recently announced the formation of a new company, called Calico. The new company will “will focus on health and well-being, in particular the challenge of aging and associated diseases.” According to the news release, Arthur D. Levinson, Chairman and former CEO of Genentech and Chairman of Apple, will be Chief Executive Officer and a founding investor. [Read more…]

Twitter Whois Record Hijacked, Syria Electronic Army Claims Responsibility

A friend of mine pointed out the Twitter whois record. Apparently it looks like the Admin record is Sea Sea and het email address for Twitter is now something [email protected]. There is a political situation going on right now in Syria, and there is unrest there. [Read more…]

New ICANN Regulations Require Domains to be Verified by Email or Phone

If you buy a domain name in the future, you will be required to verify ownership through receipt of a PIN number or unique code by email or by phone–or the newly registered domain name will be suspended by the registrar. Regions Bank Fails to Renew Domain Name – Web Site Goes Down
