Why I Do Not Use Yahoo Search

First off, let me explain that I have always been a fan of Yahoo!. I mean, ever since I first heard the Yahoo! Yodel, I was hooked. I know that Yahoo! Search has always had their quirks and they recently have stated that they’ve not really been a “search destination”, Yahoo! is a portal. Sure, yes, I get that.
But this sealed it for me today. I mean, this is why I no longer am going to use Yahoo! Search. I am talking about Yahoo! Organic Search, the free search results, not Yahoo! Search Marketing, their Paid Search (their Pay Per Click).
Take a look at the search results for “mobile home”. You know what a mobile home is, you know, right? Well, apparently Yahoo! does NOT know the difference between a mobile home and a cell phone:

I mean, really, Yahoo! Search, why are you showing the T mobile website, a cellular phone company, in the search results for “mobile home”? Let’s compare the Yahoo! search results for “mobile home” to Google’s “mobile home”:

Mobile homes are where people live. They’re NOT cell phones. Yahoo!, if you’re listening to this, I have some advice: T-mobile is not a good search result to display when I am looking for a “mobile home”.

Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your site and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your posts. In any case I’ll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon!

When I just started learning about internet and marketing as well I always search on Yahoo but was always unsatisfied with what I can find. Results are not accurate like you’ve shown above. Thanks to an internet guru I met during a conference that I realized I should search on Google. I find Google very accurate with the search results. I really like Google but I still go to Yahoo to read on the latest news.

I agree with the statement above that states “Well, apparently Yahoo! does NOT know the difference between a mobile home and a cell phone:” because it also did.

I always used Google & yahoo both …But I only say that Google is more accurate.

Wow!!!! that’s great…I can only say that Google is the world’s largest search engine who provide more secure service platform & It is more trustworthy service provider…. So, better to go with this, Thanks.

I stopped using yahoo and switched to google at least five years ago, U find google to be far more accurate and relevant than any of the other search engines on most searches!

I really enjoyed reading your post, so I understand if it was Yahoo’s always have their quirks and they recently have stated that they did not really become “destination search”,, thank you for the information hopefully it would be useful.

Ive been really trying with Yahoo but I still can’t get as much out of it as I do with the big G. Its weird, I can use different browsers for different reasons, but I cant find a reason to use more than 1 search engine.

When will Yahoo (and a really big heap of other search engines) be shut down? Like, just give up? They cant compete agains Google anyway, everyone that uses Yahoo for searches are people that dont know that Google exists. I mean, come on! The only reason someone ever uses anything else than Google is because the browser tells them to..

These days I just give up using Yahoo!

I’ve always disliked Yahoo, especially their ppc platform, the almighty G for me has always been far superior.

Right. Nice post. I agree that user’s usability counts a lot when designing a site for people.

Yahoo has been bringing up the rear for a long time, the only thing that I use yahoo for is link analysis. their Link:MyDomain search is way better than googles, other than that they are a big fat fail.

I think you’ll find Google has it’s own quirks too. Try searching ‘baker’ for example in Google UK, none of the first page are bakers!

Although google is far better than yahoo, google too has it’s glitches. Both can be gamed, though google is far better at policing the gamers. A semantic web can’t be far off!

because of lots advertisement in yahoo rather than google..

I know, it’s qite frusterating! I use microsoft Bing as they’re a little better with the advertisements but basically thats the world we live in today.
