The Public Interest Registry (PIR) is calling on passionate and experienced individuals to apply for its esteemed Advisory Council. This initiative aims to bolster PIR’s mission of empowering mission-driven organizations and providing invaluable insights on issues impacting the broader .ORG community, which includes noncommercial internet users, nonprofits, and various mission-driven entities.
A Call to Diverse Voices
PIR’s Advisory Council is not just a governance body but a dynamic assembly of diverse voices representing a wide array of sectors. These sectors include education, arts, culture, human rights, politics, religion, and science, among others. By ensuring no two members hail from the same organization, PIR promotes a rich tapestry of perspectives. Furthermore, PIR is dedicated to achieving a globally diverse council, representing small, medium, and large organizations from around the world.
Key Responsibilities and Benefits
Council members serve terms ranging from one to three years, as outlined in the PIR Advisory Council Charter. While the positions are voluntary, they offer significant benefits, including funded travel to PIR’s headquarters in Reston, Virginia, for one of the four annual meetings. This setup provides a platform for members to engage deeply with PIR’s mission and operations.
New council members are expected to demonstrate a steadfast commitment to the ethical, responsible, and effective use of the internet. Although domain industry experience is beneficial, strong English communication skills are essential, given that council meetings and communications will be conducted in English.
