comScore Releases February 2007 US Search Engine Rankings
comScore has released its monthly qSearch analysis of activity across competitive search engines. In February 2007, Google Sites captured 48.1 percent of the U.S. search market, gaining 0.6 share points from the previous month. Yahoo! Sites maintained its second place ranking with 28.1 percent of U.S. searches, followed by Microsoft Sites (10.5 percent), Ask Network (5.0 percent) and Time Warner Network (4.9 percent). [Read more…]

According to FaceTime researchers, a Trojan is falsely boosting traffic statistics for Chinese websites. FaceTime has discovered that the Symfly Trojan is abusing the Alexa Toolbar. Abusing the Alexa Toolbar causes a website’s traffic to be reported incorrectly. [Read more…]
Hitwise Says Searches for Global Warming Going Up
According to Hitwise, one of the companies that tracks these sorts of things, is saying in a press release today that searches for the search phrase “global warming” are “heating up”: The number of search queries containing the words ‘global warming’ increased 173 percent year over year — growing from 755 unique terms in the four weeks ending February 18, 2006 to 2,059 unique terms in the four weeks ending February 17, 2007. According to governmental statistics, China’s internet population grew last year by 23.4 percent to 137 million people. At the current rate of growth, Chinese online users will outnumber the 210 million users in the United States by 2009.
