April 2007 Internet Traffic Report as Reported by comScore

It’s no surprise (to me) that Google continues to be the most popular web site in the United Kingdom. comScore is also reporting today that social networking web sites’ traffic continues to grow. Furthermore, comScore says that the Easter holiday drove a lot of traffic.

comScore also reported that Google maintained its usual place as the most popular web property in the UK. Google had 27.4 million visitors from the UK, followed by Microsoft web sites and eBay. Microsoft sites had 27 million UK visitors and eBay had 21.6 million UK visitors. What’s interesting to note is that Google and eBay were visited by nearly 9 out of every 10 people from Britain.

Lycos Europe had a surge of traffic–mainly due teo the addition of About.com and IMDB.com to their portfolio. Lycos Europe’s web sites were the eleventh most popular sites in the UK during April 2007.

Facebook’s was the top gainer when it came to growth of web traffic in the UK during April 2007. Facebook’s traffic was up thirty eight percent for the second month in a row. Facebook had 3.7 million UK visitors. Another social networking site, Bebo, was also a top gainer, up 6 percent versus March 2007

Photobucket, a photo sharing web site, was also a top gainer of more web traffic, and was up five percent–with 2.5 million visitors during April 2007.

Alloy another site that is driven by a photo sharing web site rockyou.com, was by four percent versus their March 2007 traffic.

The travel web site First Choice Holidays saw 9 percent growth and Priceline.com showed four percent growth. comScore reports that this is due to people looking for last minute travel deals online around the Easter holiday.

People sending Easter greetings online to their friends and relatives drove internet traffic to the American Greetings web sites, which were up fourteen percent over the previous month to 2.4 million visitors.

DIY (Do It Yourself) group Kingfisher also was up four percent as compared to the previous month to four million visitors during Aprio 2007–apparently many people showed interest in doing some sort of home improvement during the extended Easter holiday weekend.
