Danny Goodwin Leaving Search Engine Watch as Editor

Posted on July 31, 2014 Written by Bill Hartzer

Danny Goodwin, the Editor of Search Engine Watch, is leaving Incisive Media. Mr. Goodwin has been at Search Engine Watch since 2007, and is going to work for LinkDex. This was first announced on Webcology this afternoon on WebmasterRadio.FM.

According to Mr. Goodwin, When he started in 2007, “he had two editors above him, and he has been the only paid full time editor/writer for the past year or year and a half. There has been a budget focus by the London team for a while now.

There was a shock and impact when Mike Grehan left, and editorially Mike was pretty much hands-off. He was there when they had questions and was very helpful when you needed him. Mike came on in 2009 and was phenomenal at Search Engine Watch. The site pretty much runs itself and they’re there to make the writers look good.”

On Webcology, Danny continued to talk about what’s next for Search Engine Watch:

“There will be a learning curve, and Danny Sullivan started SEW back in the day… Search Engine Watch was declared dead when Danny Sullivan left. They need to make Search Engine Watch their own, and take it to the next level.”

“As Search Engine Watch Editor, the most successful stories was the story right after the Google Penguin update. There was a lot of good research that went into it.

One of the Google Doodle posts was a story he did a while back that had the most page views on the history of Search Engine Watch.”

“There are some posts that are the “throw away” ones that tend to do the best.”

What is the purpose of the search media? Why does it exist?
“They want to help marketers do their jobs better. Search changes and there are a thousand things to do in search. There are high quality standards that you try to maintain, and it’s important to keep the high standards of content.”

So what’s next for Danny Goodwin? He’ll be the Editor of a new publication/site/web property that is going to be launched soon by LinkDex.
