SEMPO Absorbed by Digital Analytics Association

SEMPO DAA

By Bill Hartzer, February 3, 2020 at 9:25am CST.

SEMPO, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, has been absorbed into the Digital Analytics Association. Both associations agreed that there were ultimately going to be more opportunities available for current and would-be SEMPO members by joining the two organizations together. This essentially means that SEMPO, is no longer operating as a stand-alone organization.

SEMPO, the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, was founded in 2002 by a small group of search industry professionals, all that have gone on to do great things for this industry. And all of them were truly search industry pioneers. SEMPO was also one of the reasons why I founded the Dallas/Fort Worth Search Engine Marketing Association in 2004: to help the search industry by providing networking and educational opportunities locally, in the Dallas Fort Worth area. DFWSEM continues that same mission, and we’re also proud to host the State of Search conference every year in the Fall.

This news was originally released on January 31st, but I first heard about it today, February 3, 2020, in an email from the DAA:

“Because you were on the SEMPO (Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization) community list as a not-yet-member, we thought you should know SEMPO has been absorbed by the Digital Analytics Association (DAA).

As the field of search and search analytics has expanded, each agreed there were more opportunities available for current and would-be SEMPO members by joining with a larger association.

The 5,000-member, 15-year-old organization is committed to helping former SEMPO members become fully integrated into the DAA community. We will be forming a member-only special interest group (SIG) for search analytics, and encourage non-members to learn more about DAA by attending a local DAA Chapter event or public webinar or by visiting the DAA Website.

We hope you will want to continue to receive valuable information from the joint communities regarding professional development, the latest industry trends, and upcoming events. In adherence with our privacy practices, you will need to opt-in to remain on our email list. We hope to meet you soon.”

SEMPO also tweeted about the news:

BIG NEWS!

And a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported SEMPO over the years. See you over at @DAAorg! https://t.co/ksMI6MF70L

After so long, it’s sad for me to see SEMPO go away and be absorbed into another association, as I have been working to bring search information and education to the Tyler, Texas and East Texas area with a local search industry event.

You can read the official press release and information on the DAA website.
