RipoffReport.com Home Page Delisted in Google

Posted on October 30, 2014 Written by Bill Hartzer

Apparently because of a legal complaint, the home page of Ripoff Report has been de-listed by Google. If you search for Ripoff Report in Google, the site’s home page is no longer listed in the search results. However, another page appears, the search.aspx page.

Ripoff Report's home page has been delisted by Google because of a legal complaint. But the rest of the site is still there. Worth a watch.

— Tony N. Wright (@tonynwright) October 30, 2014

According to Mr. Wright, of Wright IMC, the site’s home page has been delisted because of a legal complaint. However, there is not indication from Google that this is the case. Typically, if a web page has been removed from Google (because of a DMCA takedown request, for example), the Google search results will indicate it.

However, in this case, it looks like the RipoffReport.com home page has been removed from Google’s index but there’s no indication why it’s been removed.

The Ripoff Report is a privately owned and operated for-profit website founded by Ed Magedson. The Ripoff Report has been online since December 1998, and many companies who have been listed on the website have tried, in vain, to get their listings removed. There’s rumors that there is a cost to be removed from the websites, some claim that Ripoff Report has requested tens of thousands of dollars to get a page removed from the site.

As you might recall, I’ve written about Ripoff Report before here, such as the case when the site was hacked.

H/T to Tony Wright for making me aware of this.

UPDATE:
It turns out that after being delisted for a day or so, the site’s home page is back now.
