Apple Continues to Register Mystery Domain Names

February 7, 2014 By Bill Hartzer

A few days ago, I uncovered the fact that Apple owns a bunch of mysterious domain names, most of which are resolving to a default Linux setup page on Amazon’s cloud.

But today, after I reported that one of these mysterious domain names, trollqtkhoverlaysbynk.biz, was registered and then deleted, was just re-registered yesterday.

On January 24, 2014, Apple registered trollqtkhoverlaysbynk.biz. But, on January 25, 2014, Apple deleted trollqtkhoverlaysbynk.biz which is now available for registration.

As of the writing of this post, this domain name, trollqtkhoverlaysbynk.biz is actually not resolving to the Amazon cloud server like the other domain names have been.

Here’s the entire list of domain names that I found, these are all pointing to an Amazon cloud server. If you would like to look at the list yourself, as it seems to be changing each day, you can use Majestic SEO’s IP Neighborhood checker. There are now 26 domains:

2 ogpwcickblflv.net

23 yjdkxvdptdhvdy.in

24 stkjpcljfbsncam.com

25 royxolaihpvfef.net

26 xctexmtcuakw.net

By using Majestic SEO’s IP neighborhood checker, I was able to find, historically, that Apple has been doing this since around March 2013, and currently there are 26 domains on this same IP address. There are actually have been as many as 172 domain names that are “mysterious” domain names that Apple is doing this with.
