Gravityscan is Shutting Down

Gravityscan, the website security scanner service, is shutting down. Scheduled scans will continue to run on a set schedule and Gravityscan badges will continue to show on Pro websites through March 8, 2018.

Wordfence, a popular WordPress website security product, launched Gravityscan back in May 2017. Gravityscan was meant to be an addition to Wordfence, providing a “thorough vulnerability and malware scan on your site in just a few minutes with real-time updates as the scan progresses.” Gravityscan was a good vulnerability and malware scanner for sites other than WordPress, including Joomla, Drupal, Magento, vBulletin and any other CMS. I personally have been running Gravityscan on this site since it launched, and then bought the pro version.

Here’s the entire announcement from Gravityscan, as sent via email to its users:

“We have some exciting news and some bittersweet news. We will jump straight to the point that we will be shutting down Gravityscan on March 8th, 2018. As a paying customer, we can’t thank you enough for supporting this fun and progressive experiment. Unfortunately, it never found the critical mass of devoted customers it needed to survive.

Your scheduled scans will continue to run per your set schedule and Gravityscan badges will continue to show for each Pro site through March 8th. We have disabled site upgrades and auto-renewals. You will not be billed again. The Pro support team will continue to be available to help with any issues or questions you have.

We have ended the Free Security Monitoring program and Gravityscan badges for those sites will be disabled today. Scheduled scans will continue to run for another month.

You will have access to your Gravityscan account through March 8th. We recommend that you remove the badge code from all of your sites at your earliest convenience.

The exciting news is we are already at work on new product ideas that will incorporate some of the amazing technology built into Gravityscan and we believe help even more customers protect their websites.

Thank you again for supporting Gravityscan. As a paying customer you played a critical role in this journey. This decision doesn’t impact any of Defiant’s other products or services. We hope you’ll join us for the next chapter, as we continue our efforts to make the web safer.

Cheers!

The Defiant Team”

I’ve now removed the Gravityscan code (and badge) from this site, as suggested by the team at Defiant. You can see the Gravityscan badge at the top of this post.
