CBS Finally Approves GoDaddy Super Bowl Ad

After two unsuccessful attempts to get their Super Bowl(R) tv ad approved by CBS, the television network finally approved the third ad that GoDaddy.com submitted for approval. CBS originally rejected the first two versions of GoDaddy’s version of “the office”, yet no one is revealing the entire storyline for the 2007 GoDaddy.com Super Bowl(R) television ad.

As you might recall, in 2005, many people considered GoDaddy.com to be the most effective commercial in Super Bowl history: The FOX(R) television network pulled GoDaddy’s Super Bowl(R) commercial after it aired just once: they said it was too racy and called it “inappropriate”. But, the ensuing controversy resulted in an unprecedented 51.14 percent “Share of Voice,” according to multivision, inc., a company that measures advertising buzz. GoDaddy’s television ad, a parody of the Janet Jackson “malfunction” fiasco, helped coin the phrase “GoDaddy-esque.”

In a press release today, Bob Parsons, GoDaddy.com’s CEO and Founder said, “GoDaddy-esque means our commercial is FUN, edgy and a just a touch inappropriate…We believe many people expect entertaining ads during the game, we want to have fun and invite people to see more on the GoDaddy.com site. That’s what it’s all about.”

Last year, GoDaddy.com submitted 14 commercials before the ABC(R) television network approved the television spot that finally ran during the Super Bowl(R). The GoDaddy.com Super Bowl(R) ad drove a massive amount of traffic to the GoDaddy.com website: apparently about 1.6 million more visitors went to GoDaddy.com on Super Bowl Sunday and the following day than visited the site on the previous Sunday and Monday.

This year, GoDaddy.com bought three ad slots during the Super Bowl on CBS. The Super Bowl(R)is going to be held on February 4th, 2007. So far, Parsons has said that the commercial features the famous “Go Daddy Girl” Candice Michelle. He says additional cast members include IndyCar(R) star Danica Patrick and stars from cable television’s popular chopper family. Paul Teutul, Senior and his sons Paul Junior and Mikey of reality television fame will have roles. Also slated to be in the spot, Internet celebrities like Diggnation’s Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht, along with Cali Lewis from GeekBriefTV.

  1. What’s very noteworthy here is that Diggnation’s Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht are supposed to be in the new GoDaddy.com Super Bowl tv ad!

  2. I think godaddy made the super bowl commercial where they knew it wasn’t going to be approved. That way to generate more interest in the commercial. Now you can watch the unedited one on youtube.
