After I speak at conferences and events, I usually upload a copy of my presentation to Slideshare here so people who were at the event and those who weren’t at the event can see my presentation. Well, someone asked me today for a copy of an SEO audit (a template), which I will NOT give out. So, knowing that I don’t give out SEO audit templates or examples, I usually send people to my Slideshare account that has my recent SEO audit presentations which DO include lots of good info on my SEO audits. But today that changed. It seems as if Slideshare as misconfigured their SSL certificate. Take a look at what happens when I try to go to Slideshare:
LinkedIN, who owns Slideshare, owned by Microsoft, has their SSL certificate bungled, as the SSL certificate is only valid for these domains: *.azureedge.net, *.media.microsoftstream.com, *.origin.mediaservices.windows.net, *.streaming.mediaservices.windows.net
It’s these types of misconfigurations that can cause large outages–and website downtime. I know I was just on the Slideshare.net site yesterday, getting a link to one of my presentations. But now, since I can’t get to the site very easily, I’m sure others are having the same problem, and will just give up.
You can get to the site with this error, but it’s not very easy. You must click on “Advanced” and then “Add Exception” but I’m not going to do that. I don’t need to get to Slideshare that bad.
By the way, I also checked Google Chrome and I get a similar error: that the Slideshare.net domain is invalid:
