Max Media Group has launched a real time social media search application called “The Babel“.

The Babel was developed with technology acquired from BlackStar Entertainment Technologies Inc., and allows you to search data being generated in real time. The data is generated by Max Media’s web sites as well as relevant real-time information being generated on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Digg, StumbleUpon, YouTube, and a few others.

I did a search at The Babel for my primary social media ID, bhartzer, and really didn’t find anything different than the search results I would find if I did the same search over at Google, for example:

At first glance, I am not so impressed by this new real time social search engine. After a few searches, it appears that the search results are bringing up social media accounts, and not necessarily the actual content. For example, searches for keyword phrases like “Charlie Sheen”, which should pull up some sort of content–something that Charlie Sheen recently tweeted or added on a social media web site. The Babel’s search results bring up content that is related to the accounts as a whole–not an actual Tweet.

So, I hate to be a tough critic here, but I would probably give The Babel, a real time social media search engine, a grade of C or D when it comes to the “real time” part of the equation here. In fact, when I searched for a tweet (with quotes) that I made several hours ago, which should be available in “real time”, there were no search results.

The Babel may be a good social search engine, but it certainly fails when it comes to “real time”. Oh yeah, and by the way, you might consider purchasing the non-hyphenated version of your domain name. I bet you may lose out on some traffic in the future.
