I quite often get customers stuck with an argument with a previous designer and who need a new URL. So excellent advice and I would say check the who is record when the invoice arrives and do not pay it until it shows the URL is registered to you. You wouldn’t pay for a car registered to the garage, so why pay for a website registered to the designer?

Jen Kumar, you need to contact the domain name’s registrar, the registrar where you purchased the domain name. They will most likely be able to offer you a privacy protection service.

That’s was really a good idea, sometimes we need to protect some accounts. Many people now are so High Tech and there’s a possibility that they can access to our account anytime.

And how all these “search engine optimization tips” will help you to get better optimized website or better SERPs??? Are you saying that if the Registrant Name will be your hosting company or designer google will reduce your rankings?? LOL.

Good points Bill. I’m always amazed at the number of people that I come across that are being held hostage by their web designers. I heard of a friends client recently that was being blackmailed $300 to get his domain off the web designer and when the client refused to pay the unscrupulous designer set up a website with the clients competitors contact details on it……not good as the domain was something like joe bloggs electricians .com ….you get the idea.
