Quintura Launches Site Search for Publishers

Quintura, a company that provides a site search, analytics, and monetization platform for online content publishers, has officially launched their Quintura Site Search for publishers who are based in the United States.

Quintura has developed a hosted site search platform that provides an intuitive, visual-based search and navigation for your site visitors. So far, Maxim magazine and the Russian Newsweek and Cosmopolitan in Russia have been the first to implement Quintura’s visual-based search on their websites. So far, more than 1,000 publishers have registered to use the Quintura site search solution. The Quintura network has a monthly audience of 10 million site visitors.

If you own a site that has content (i.e., you’re a blogger or have another content site), then you have yet another opportunity to monetize your site. You sign up for the Quintura service and they will give you some code to put on your site. Then, you’ll have an interactive site search for your site that looks like a search field with a Tag Cloud on your site. Ads are integrated into the site search. You can run your own ads (ads that you sell advertisers on your site) or you can rely on Quintura’s ads.

I’ve added the Quintura tag cloud widget here as a sample. Feel free to test it out:

type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"

height="400"
/>

The Quintura site search can be fairly easily installed on your site to monetize banner ad placements along with sponsored ad links. If you’re a publisher, you can increase your advertising revenues by delivering more ad impressions as driven by users’ behavior as they mouse over keywords in the Quintura tag cloud.

Advertisers Benefit Too
This is a unique opportunity for advertisers. Your company’s small image ads (typically your company logo) are displayed in the Quintura search tag cloud as a small expandable icon. An icon expands out into a full advertisement with a picture and text you mouseover the logo. The ad context matches the user search. Clicking an advertisement brings the visitor to your landing page.

Quintura was awarded their first U.S. patent on October 14, 2008, patent number 7,437,370. The patent is for a “Search engine graphical interface using maps and images”. Here is the abstract from the patent:

A system and method for visualization of search results includes a map displayed to a user on a screen. The map shows search query terms and optionally other terms related to the search query terms. The display of the terms corresponds to relationship between the terms. A graphical image is displayed next to at least one of the search query terms. The graphical image is associated with a URL that corresponds to a search result. The graphical image is a favorite icon that is derived from the HTML script associated with a webpage at the URL, or an animated image, or a video, or a cycling GIF. A plurality of graphical images can be displayed in proximity to the search query term.

According to Quintura, they currently have several other patents pending. Quintura’s entrance into the United States search market allows publishers to monetize their sites and gives a whole set of new features to site visitors. Publishers can monetize their sites but they also get enhanced back-end analytics, as well. The Quintura site search analytical tools give publishers real-time access to their site search information, including search term rankings, trends, and analyses for identifying new content requirements based on search interest.

The site search solution is also available to content publishers who do not wish to use its advertising features as a service, offered on a subscription-fee basis. If you are a publisher and would like to sign up for the Quintura service, go here to learn more and to sign up.

    I have never heard of this service before. I am just starting to set up some new sites as well as continuing my forex blog and this seems like a unique way to monetize a site. The widget seems a little plain though is there a choice for more noticeable ones?

    Very interesting – it’s quite a bit more flashy than adsense and many of the other networks.

    It will be interesting to see how that plays out for advertisers and publishers

    Are there different skins available? I would like mine to look more “bubbly” like mac programs if that makes any sense.

    Bill,
    Thanks for exposing us to this info. It makes a lot of sense to me why this tool could potentially outperform the typical site placed ads & search engines. It has a lot going for it in it’s connection with how the human brain likes to work. I think this has to be the wave of the future. It will be interesting to see how it integrates with video and evolves with the internet. I like the presentation Quintura has on their website, however whenever I see claims of a certain percentage increase in page views, CTR, searches, etc., my 1st reaction is always, “how do I know if that’s really true”? It does seem somewhat plausible this product could meet the claims, but in this day and age, anybody can say anything – you know what I mean?
    (I suppose, “for publishers its free, so just try it out” would be one answer).

    One other thing, I do like the fact that its free, which only makes sense, but you mentioned they also offer a fee based subscription for publishers who only want to use the site search feature without ads. It looks to me that’s what you’re using in your sample widget here. Since I couldn’t find any info about the ad-free option on their website, could you tell us the cost of their subscription fee, if you’re privy?
    Thanks.

    This is a fascinating product. I’m curious if their overall business model will work.. but from an organization point of view, it allows for more “visual learning”-style interaction. I like it a lot.

    Wow this is the first time for me to hear of the Quintura service, there are a few services that I already like, but there seems to be new services coming into the scene monthly, maybe I will find a place for this one soon :)

    Interesting patent, although I thought that similar search engines existed whereby images were displayed next to a site according to the HTML, such as in Digg and other social bookmarking websites?

    I like the keyword suggestions in the search. However, I’m somewhat skeptical on its quality as a decent affiliate company to work with.

    This product seems to provide a good service to publishers because it allows users new ways to find information on your site. It also has the added addition of providing advertising revenue. It will be interesting to see if their business plan pans out for them. Thanks for telling us about this service.

    That is pretty interesting. The tag cloud that animates is really cool as well, but I don’t see how it would help out most websites. It looks good, and it’s fun, and it is sort of useful, but I’m afraid Quintura is focused more on flashy effects rather than great search. Still, they’ve peaked my interest.

    Yes I kid agree with Tanner. Though they look good, they should prioritize their search results more. I have to use them too. Hope they provide a good monetizing soltuion.

    Interesting concept, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. I played around with the widget you’ve got inserted here, and while the results are good, the entire graphic interface is really poorly done. In concept and principle, I think this is great, but the graphics department should be shot.

    Never heard of them before – I think their timing is good since Adsense hasn’t seen any new innovations in the last 5 years or so (yes, there’s been tweaks but it hasn’t resulted in publishers earning more – in fact we’re earning less per click, and getting lower CTR too).

    I’ve seen this been implemented on big sites, it’s good that it is more of an interactive “smart” ad, than the conventional still ads, there can be lots of growth to this but, the graphics and layout looks dull, maybe they want it to look ilke text ads, or is it possible to fully customize this?

    This is very interesting. Just as the visitors seems to be imune to adsense, this program “falls” down from the sky. I think thogh it will take som time before the visitors get used to using it and changes thei site behavior. But it still is interesting to see how succesfull it will be.
