OBG Management and Convera Launch OBGfindit ObGyn Search Engine

Posted on May 2, 2008 Written by Bill Hartzer

OBG FindItOBG Management has teamed up with Convera(R) to create OBG FindIt, a vertical search engine for the ObGYN specialty. OBG Management is a leader in obstetrics and gynecological patient care and practice management communications. Convera Corporation is a leading provider of vertical search for trade publishers.

OBG FindIt Home Page

OBG FindIt provides search results for ob/gyn specialty-specific patient care and practice management. So, if you are not in that particular field it might not be very useful to you. However, if you are expecting a baby I could see how this might be useful if you’re interested in doing some research.

For example, I did a search for “contractions” at OBG FindIt and it came back with about 23,444 search results, from sites like obgyn.net, biomedcentral.com, and americanpregnancy.org.

OBG FindIt Search Results

OBG FindIt has added some useful search boxes in various sizes to their search can be easily integrated into other web sites. More search engines should offer these, especially vertical search engines that are specific to certain industries. Here is a sample search box for the OBG FindIt vertical search engine:

OBG FindIt brings back what they call “editorially selected” search results to users. According to OBG FindIt, “extraneous and unrelated sites have been edited out to yield tightly targeted search results tailored to the interests and needs of the ObGyn audience.” Their goal is to have the search results focus on association activities and publications, peer-reviewed medical research, surgical procedures, diagnostic techniques, standards of care, medicolegal, and other related information to the ObGyn field.

OBG Management is published by Dowden Health Media and is a division of Lebhar-Friedman, Inc., a full-service healthcare communications company that specializes in high-quality communication with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and consumers. Its highly respected, peer-reviewed journals reach more than 300,000 physicians and clinicians in surgery, psychiatry, family practice, internal medicine and obstetrics/gynecology.

Convera(R)Corporation (NASDAQ:CNVR) is the leading provider of vertical search services for trade publishers and manages the vertical search sites of a growing number of specialist publishers around the world.
