Thanks for the post
Question - You said

"I actually like to keep pingomatic in there…there are often times when pings fail because the server’s busy or there’s another issue."

Do we not face having our blogs banned when pinging services multiple times, every time we post?

Is there an "accepted duplicate pings" - I realize that the ping services aren't giving out any numbers but are you saying that your list, even though you may ping some services 3 or 4 times, won't make the blacklist filter?

Algimantas, before I posted the list I ran it through a duplicate content filter--to make sure that there aren't any duplicate URLs in the list. The list is compiled through a lot of different sources, and there originally were duplicates (some sources that had a ping list listed the same ones). So, filtering the list was necessary.

Also, I suggest that you get the 'smart update pinger' plugin for WordPress (if you're using WordPress) which allows you to see which ping services are accepting the pings and which ones are not or are "busy". Looking at that plugin's log file will help you figure out which ones are best for you and your blog.

There are many duplicates in this list. Are they really necessary?

Nice post Bill

I'd like to get your opinion on something. Since pingomatic pings a number of resources, do you think it would be a good idea to remove it from you ping list when listing the resources separately in order to avoid pinging the same resource more than once?
