Excellent post...i have read that it is much easier to apply backlinks to an aged expired domain than a new one so in terms of a domain name for flipping sites and applying links to gain search engine position ..This would be viable..Yes?.

Wow, great list and great post! One question only: let`s say I buy [mydomainname].com, and Godaddy or whoever I buy it from suggests I should buy the .net, . org etc. Is this really worth it? None of that domains have been used in the past and have any links pointing to them, they are all fresh new. Is it complitely pointless to buy these domains?

Although it may be bad practice, a lot of Domain Registrars out there hold back domain names if it has any real value in terms of incoming links and google pagerank regardless whether it is on/off topic.

Thinking along those lines, if an expired domain name quickly became available to register, it may be likely it's clear of any bad incoming links and so forth.

Does anybody know of any site that has been able to effectively implement the purchase of an expired domain and convert into a fully functional site in terms of traffic, etc?

How far is it feasible to buy an expired domain for your company website?
Is it a good idea?
I mean, will the traffic to the site be affected in any way?
