HotPads Launches For Sale Real Estate Search Engine

HotPads.com, a map-based rental housing search engine, has launched into the For Sale market. Now you can search hundreds of thousands of For Sale listings. Consumers can search for real estate for sale and real estate professionals can list their properties for free.

HotPads has been around for about two years and has offered rental listings, with up to 80,000 rental properties and 30 of the top 50 property management companies in the United States.
In the image below, I used the latest HotPads.com For Sale Real Estate search to look for houses located in the Irving, Texas area. It’s pretty cool, as I can actually zoom in and literally “mouseover” the listings and see more data about it:

HotPads is a map-based real estate search engine. HotPads offers free listings and is free to search. If you’re looking for housing you can literally “zoom” into a city or neighborhood and see all the available listings on a map. You can also research potential neighborhoods by using their demographic and housing heat maps. School and public transportation data available.
As HotPads enters the For Sale listing search market, they’re offering over 200,000 real estate listings provided by clients and partners
HotPads has been one of the fastest-growing active real estate listings services on the internet. HotPads was founded by three Notre Dame roommates who became entrepreneurs.

Hi Bill,
We have been contemplating adding some vacation rental listings to HotPads - that’s a large component of our clients so I think we’re going to check it out. Ranking seems to be iffy though, as their optimization doesn’t get very “geotargeted” as you drill into specific cities, etc - it will be interesting to see if the site gets any traction in the serps.
Thanks for the update on their real estate venture

I wonder why this outfit redirects their links. To make it less attractive to the spammers?

Pretty cool. It appears at first glance to be pretty user friendly. Reminds me of Zillow. i will definately take advantage of one more medium to market listings for my clients. As mentioned by “Carrie” above, they don’t place very well in the SERPs though. Nice post.

Yes! I think Hotpads might be an excellent addition to my list of resources I use when it’s time to rent one of my properties out…
I will give it a try! :^)

Very cool website even though it seems to be very similar to Zillow or Trulia.
It is different so I think some users may prefer it. The feature that I enjoy the most is how you can easily see a large area’s listing without it being to crammed and the icons help you easily to see the different types of properties.

Wow, what an amazing tool. I think this will be very useful trying to buy or sell a house. I’ve never seen a tool that does this for rental properties!
Thanks for the info!

The search options look pretty unique and it appears that they offer a slightly different user experience. I’ve never heard of hotpads but I’ll go check the site out. Thanks for the information - I wonder if they teamed up with anyone to populate their homes for sale section?

Thats a really cool site. I was wondering about their business plan since its free to list and search. Looks to me like they are now partnered with Yahoo real estate. Curious to see what comes of that.

Hot Pads looks pretty cool, I could easily see a Google buyout.
